B.C. Air Quality

What are Indexes and Advisories?

The information below will lead you to various kinds of information on current air quality in your area.

B.C.'s Air Quality Readings
Use the interactive map on this website to get information about current, past, and forecast air quality readings for British Columbia.

Air Quality Health Index (AQHI)
The Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) is a new, national health initiative that provides real-time air quality readings and related health messages.

Odour Index
The Odour Index describes pollutants that present an odour problem, but not a direct health problem at usual concentrations.

Air Quality Advisories (background information)
The Ministry of Environment issues air quality advisories to inform the public about degraded air quality.

Ventilation Index
The Ventilation Index provides a smoke-control forecast for British Columbia that contains predictions of the Ventilation Index and low-level winds for 25 B.C. locations. For background information, see Ventilation Index.

UV Index (Environment Canada)
The UV Index provides forecasts of the maximum daily ultraviolet radiation expected for different parts of Canada. The higher the UV Index, the more precautions people should take to be "sun safe." For more details, see Environment Canada's UV Index Program.
